<br />DIRECTIVE NUMBER: <br />401.06.03.019 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Staff Continuing <br />Education, Orientation, and <br />Training <br /> <br />PAGE NUMBER: <br />2 of 2 <br /> <br />05.00.00. PROCEDURE <br /> <br />The Division of Institutional Services shall request that the Facility Hea lth Authority and <br />the IDOC Training Manager coordinate and provide training for new health care staff <br />during the pre-service Basic Training Academies. The Facility Health Authority shall <br />also provide a period of initial orientation for new health care sta ff by formally <br />addressing the unique tasks and requirements of the institution. <br /> <br />The Facility Health Authority shall provide information and schedule for continuing <br />medical education programs. <br /> <br />Additionally, the Facility Health Authority shall provide as needed in-service training <br />programs to ensure that skills of the health care staff are current within the institutional <br />setting. <br /> <br />The Facility Health Authority shall cooperate with the Training Manager to provide <br />appropriate First Aid and CPR training for medical and other correctional staff to ensure <br />the highest possible emergency medical response. <br /> <br />The first aid and CPR training and certificate in accordance with the American Red <br />Cross or American Heart Association shall be awarded by an individual with a current <br />instructor’s certificate. <br /> <br />All qualified health care professionals will receive at least 12 hours of Continuing <br />Education in accordance to their assigned positions. <br /> <br />All qualified health care professionals who have patient contact must have <br />current training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />___________________________________________ _____________________ <br />Administrator, Institutional Services Division Date
