<br />DIRECTIVE NUMBER: <br />401.06.03.057 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br />Sexual Assaults <br /> <br />PAGE NUMBER: <br />2 of 2 <br /> <br />This standard is not to be confused with P -68 ‘Forensic Information.’ With victim <br />consent, qualified health providers are permitted to gather evidence from victims who <br />have been sexually assaulted. <br /> <br />With victim’s consent, the examination at a hospital or other appropriate medical care facility <br />shall include the collection of evidence, using a kit approved by the local legal authority. <br /> <br />Prophylactic treatment and follow-up for sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, <br />etc.) shall be offered to all victims of any sexual assault. <br /> <br />Provision shall be made for testing and counseling (i.e., Hepatitis B, HIV, etc.) as is deemed <br />appropriate by the facility health authority. <br /> <br />A complete mental health evaluation shall be performed by a mental health professional <br />following the physical examination and treatment. This shall be for the purpose of crisis <br />intervention counseling and for the purpose of scheduling long-term follow-ups as indicated. <br /> <br />A complete report shall be made to the warden of the institution or his/her designee to effect a <br />separation of the victim from his or her assailant in the housing assignment. <br /> <br />The collection of medical information and evidence from the perpetrator by health care <br />staff would not be permitted under standard P -68 “Forensic Information.” <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />___________________________________________ _____________________ <br />Administrator, Institutional Services Division Date
