<br />19 | P a g e <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />How do I apply? <br /> <br />Applying for VR services requires a series of steps: <br />An applicant provides information to VR staff during an intake interview. Information requested by IDVR is <br />necessary to begin the eligibility assessment process. <br />AND <br />An applicant agrees that he or she is available to complete the assessment process required to determine <br />eligibility for VR services. <br />AND <br />At the intake interview, the applicant provides a signed and dated application signature sheet to IDVR or makes <br />an alternative request for application to IDVR. <br /> <br />The application process is complete when all steps have occurred. <br /> <br />If you would like to begin the application process, contact the VR office nearest you to schedule an <br />appointment. <br /> <br />Specialized Vocational Rehabilitation Service for Offenders <br /> <br />Vocational Rehabilitation is pro- active in assisting inmates with disabilities to transition into the community by <br />developing a program to concentrate on this clientele. Utilizing a team approach, counselors work <br />collaboratively with the client, the Department of Probation/ Parole and medical or psychological experts to re- <br />introduce the individual to the work world. The Division has gained a level of expertise that has resulted in a <br />high success rate of individuals securing and maintaining employment, a savings in institutional costs and an <br />overall net gain to the community. <br /> <br />Because people are expected to contribute to the cost of their vocational rehabilitation program to the extent <br />possible, you may be responsible for some costs of your rehabilitation plan. This will be based upon your <br />individual financial need. However, no one is ever turned away because of inability to pay. <br /> <br />Post-Secondary Education <br /> <br />Everyone on Probation/Parole MUST check with the supervising Probation/Parole Officer to get permission to <br />register for post-secondary classes. <br />Part-Time Student Options <br /> <br />After getting released from a correctional facility, offenders need to focus on getting reestablished so that they <br />can support themselves and/or their family. This does not mean that you cannot continue your education. It is <br />possible to work a job and attend school part time. Many schools offer evening and weekend programs, and <br />these programs often qualify for financial aid. <br /> <br />Everyone on Probation/Parole MUST check with his or her supervising Parole or Probation Officer to get <br />permission to register for post-secondary classes.
