<br />20 | P a g e <br /> <br /> <br />Low Income and First Generation College Students <br />Educational Talent Search (commonly known as TRIO) is a federal program, which <br />is funded to help adults enroll in college or vocational technical schools and apply for <br />financial aid. To qualify, students must either meet low-income guidelines or be a <br />first generation college student. This program is offered free of charge to <br />participants. <br /> <br />Services offered <br /> <br />▪ Information about colleges, universities and vocational/technical <br />schools including admission and financial aid, core requirements, and <br />application procedures and requirements. <br /> <br />▪ Assistance with completion of admission and financial aid forms and <br />scholarship applications. <br /> <br />▪ Career, academic, and personal counseling <br /> <br />▪ On campus tutoring and academic services <br /> <br />Call your potential school to see if they offer this program or contact the University <br />of Idaho TRIO office at (208) 885-5341. <br />FAFSA — Free Application for Federal Student Aid <br /> <br />The FAFSA form is the first step to take to get financial aid for school. The <br />application will qualify you for all grants and loans available. You can fill out one of <br />these forms while still in prison. Education staff can help you access these forms. <br /> <br />In order to be eligible for Financial Aid, adult men must be registered for Selective <br />Service. Be aware that a drug conviction may make you ineligible for some Financial <br />Aid. Situations are handled on a case-by-case basis. More information may be <br />requested of you to determine your eligibility. Be sure to answer every question on the <br />FAFSA and all other forms completely.
